How to track macros when eating out
Updated October 14, 2026
To track macros when eating out, use the restaurant's published nutrition for the exact item and size you ordered, then log any changes you made, like double protein or no sauce. When a place publishes nothing, log your best estimate and label it as one.
Start with what is left for the day
Before you order, check how much protein, carbs, fat and calories you have left. That turns the menu into a short list instead of a guess.
Use published nutrition first
Most large chains publish nutrition for every menu item, often with a calculator for custom builds. Use the item and size you actually ordered.
Build your own places like Chipotle, CAVA and Sweetgreen list each ingredient, so add up the parts you chose.
Log changes, not just the item
Double protein, extra cheese, no rice or dressing on the side can move the numbers a lot. Log the build you ate, not the default.
When there is no published data
Local spots often publish nothing. Pick the closest match you can, log it as an estimate, and do not let one uncertain meal derail a good week.
How Dialed handles eating out
Dialed shows restaurant picks that fit your remaining macros, using published chain nutrition through FatSecret. Numbers from a chain are labeled Official. When Dialed has to estimate, it says Estimated. You can log a pick in one tap, and Dialed learns what you like over time.
